The electronics industry in China has been growing at a near unprecedented pace, as the country continues to diversify itself away from the image of being only a producer of low end consumer goods and textiles. From 2002 to 2010, China experienced an average year-over-year growth of 30% in electronic product manufacturing. The industry achieved total sales of US $5.6 trillion in 2007, which was 3.3 times the sales of 2002. The industrial added value of the electronic manufacturing industry was US $1.3 trillion, 4.4 times the 2002 total and contributed 5.53% to GDP compared to 2.47% in 2002. According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, exports of Chinese electronics reached US $591.2 billion in 2010 with a year-over-year increase of 29.3% and made up 37.5% of total exports.
