Over the past 20 years, China’s footwear manufacturing industry has undergone a period of rapid growth and development. Their exports currently accounts for 65% of the world’s footwear export total, making China the largest shoes exporting country by a large margin. Footwear from China is mainly exported to the United States, European Union, Russia, Japan and Hong Kong. Footwear is one of the top ten export products accounting for a large proportion of China’s export structure.
As of June 2010, the number of China’s footwear exports totaled over 430,000 kg of pairs of shoes. The value of this total was over US $3.1 billion with an average price of US $7.40/kg. There are four major shoe manufacturing hubs in China: Wenzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Quanzhou. The province of Guangdong is by far the biggest producer with the footwear production accounting for one half of total Chinese production and nearly one-third of production worldwide.
